From the conveners
The last 100 years in EFL have demonstrated that it is a continually evolving and developing field. Methods come and go in response to both changes in education approaches and research in second language acquisition. In view of the on-going changes in teaching English, spring- cleaning our EFL cupboards implies reviewing what it is exactly we do in order to maintain effective teaching and learning. How organised is our thinking? How often do we take stock of our lesson planning so as to avoid hoarding ineffective practice? Sorting out our EFL cupboard provides us with a chance to examine what really works and what doesn’t. We may also discover that we tend to throw out all kind of methods just because new EFL ideas suggest that the old is taking up too much space! Spring-cleaning our EFL cupboard means exploring the new but seriously rethinking the old.
